Fargo Big Brothers Big Sisters short on male mentors

FARGO — The Fargo Big Brothers Big Sisters program says it needs more male mentors.

Some boys in the mentoring program wait up to 18 months to be matched with a mentor, according to director Susan Smith, who said the shortage of male volunteers making it hard to find proper matches for many kids.

Smith said volunteering with kids may seem scary to some, but it's actually quite easy.

"It's just about spending time doing ordinary things. Things you would normally do, but just including a child with you," she said.

You can learn more about becoming a mentor on The Village Family Service Center's website.
