FARGO — A Fargo man will spend almost five years in federal prison for his part in a string of violent robberies that targeted commercial sex customers, according to a news release.
U.S. District Judge Peter Welte sentenced Teon Tyrik Berry, 20, on Monday, May 17, in Fargo to 57 months in prison for interfering with commerce using threats or violence. He and others lured a man to an apartment building in Fargo before robbing him shortly after midnight on June 6, 2019, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in North Dakota.
Berry and his codefendants advertised prostitution with adult women, but the victim was met with dangerous weapons and threats of force before he was attacked, the release said.
“Berry sought to take advantage of a customer of commercial sex whom he believed would be unwilling to go to law enforcement if he was robbed, but fortunately the victim called 911 immediately following the robbery,” the release said.
Berry was part of a group that robbed several commercial sex customers in May and June of 2019 in Fargo; Detroit Lakes, Minn.; and rural Wolverton, Minn. Berry was involved only in the June 6, 2019, robbery.
