FARGO — The Fargo Police Department has advised residents of an ongoing phone scam by an individual impersonating a member of the department.

The phone calls appear to originate from the department's non-emergency number, 701-235-4493. The caller states that a warrant is out for the recipient's arrest.

The Fargo Police Department stated Tuesday, June 23, that it does not contact individuals regarding warrants over the phone, even if they do have an open warrant.

Upon receiving a call, the department advises residents to hang up immediately and to never provide personal or payment information.
