FARGO — In north Fargo, 19th Avenue between Dakota Drive and 18th Street has reopened to traffic as of 7 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 24.

City crews cleared the snow from the avenue that is prone to snowdrifts, near Hector International Airport.

Strong winds caused severely reduced visibility Thursday morning, which prompted the closure of that stretch of 19th Avenue North.

Also Thursday morning, emergency crews dealt with a six-car pileup in the 2000 block of 19th Avenue North.

The crash occurred when the lead vehicle slowed down because of the road conditions, according to Fargo police. That car was rear-ended by the next vehicle, which caused the four vehicles behind them to crash into them both.

Medics took two motorists by ambulance to be treated for injuries that were not life-threatening. Four of the vehicles were damaged enough that they had to be towed from the scene. No citations were issued, police said.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "staff." Often, the "staff" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
