CALLAWAY, Minn. — A 27-year-old Fargo man has died after a Utility Terrain Vehicle he was driving crashed late Friday, July 1.

At about 10:15 p.m., the Becker County Sheriff's Office was called to a report of a crash on Northeast Rock Lack Road, about 13 miles northeast of Detroit Lakes.

Upon arrival, the driver, Casey Joe Arneson, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a release from the sheriff's office. His passenger, Joseph Edward Starkey, 29, of Mahnomen, suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.

The sheriff's office determined Arneson and Starkey were northbound on Northeast Rock Lake Road on a side-by-side UTV that left the road on a corner, struck a tree and rolled, the release said.

Both of them were wearing seat belts, but not helmets, the sheriff's office said, noting speed was believed to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
