FARGO — The High Plains Fair Housing Center is putting on a free public screening of Newsday's documentary about racial steering by real estate agents in Long Island, New York.
During the film, entitled "Testing the Divide," a Pulitzer Prize winner and one of the lead reporters of Newsday's undercover investigation, Bill Dedman, will be joining the event at 6 p.m., April 11 at the Indigenous Association, 720 1st Ave. N., according to a press release from the High Plains Fair Housing Center.
Newsday's investigation revealed that Long Island's dominant residential real estate brokerages helped reinforce racial segregation through illegal steering of customers.
A discussion will follow after the screening. The event is part of the High Plains Fair Housing Center's celebration of Fair Housing Month, the 55th anniversary of the passage of the Fair Housing Act.
During Fair Housing Month, the center will be exploring emerging housing segregation patterns in Fargo and look at how historical housing discrimination is shaping our cities today.
