FARGO – A photo posted this week on High Plains Reader co-owner John Strand’s Facebook page confused some people into thinking he’d filed to run for City Commissioner.

The post showed Strand at the City Auditor’s office signing paperwork to run for city office. People commented enthusiastically, some saying, “Good luck!”
In fact, the post was from a year ago. It appeared Friday as a “memory,” a Facebook tool that allows you to share a post from the past.
The post, while old, holds some truth: Strand said Friday he expects to run for City Commission again this year.
Strand has not filed yet for the June 14 election. Nor has anyone else, according to City Auditor Steven Sprague. The deadline to file is April 11.
Two seats are up for grabs because the terms of City Commissioners Melissa Sobolik and Mike Williams are ending. Williams cannot run again because of term limits.
Strand lost two bids for City Commission, in 2015 and 2014. He serves on the Fargo School Board.
