FARGO — Fargo police are looking for a man who threw two cats out of his vehicle before running over and killing one of them.
On Facebook, the Fargo Police Department released images of Fargo Animal Pound security footage that caught the Jan. 23 incident. It shows a man in what appears to be a dark hoodie and blue hat carrying a black bag.
The man is suspected of throwing two cats out of his vehicle, the Fargo Police Department said. The two cats were estimated to be less than a year old, likely 6 to 8 months old, Fargo Police spokeswoman Katie Ettish said in an email to The Forum.

The man had intended to surrender the cats to the pound but became "agitated" when he was told there was a fee he had to pay to give up the animals, Ettish said. He left the office and went to his car, she said.
"The suspect took them (the cats) out of a carrier and threw them into the parking lot separately," she said. "They were thrown out the driver’s side door."

The man then ran over one of the cats before driving away, according to the Facebook post.
The cat that was run over did not survive, police said. The second cat was not injured in the incident and is currently up for adoption, Ettish said.
The Forum found the cat on the Homeward Animal Shelter website in Fargo. His name is Benedict, and he is listed as being in foster care.

Police were unable to identify a license plate by reviewing the surveillance footage, the spokeswoman said.
Police said the man was driving a red four-door sedan car with silver window trim. Those with information about the man or incident are asked to call 701-451-7660 or text their tip with the keyword FARGOPD to 847411.
