FARGO — Authorities have identified the Fargo woman found dead in an apartment fire over the weekend as 59-year-old Kay Hultman.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. An autopsy is being done to determine Hultman's cause of death.
“The cause of the fire at 1843 13 ½ St S. will take several weeks to determine, as FFD needs to wait for the autopsy report and results from the state lab,” Fargo Fire Marshal Ryan Erickson said in a statement Wednesday, Feb. 23.
The fire started Sunday night in a first-floor unit at the Birchwood Apartments near Interstate 94 and South University Drive. Emergency dispatchers received a 911 call reporting the blaze at 6:30 p.m., and the first fire department vehicle arrived at 6:33 p.m., according to Battalion Chief Dane Carley.
Firefighters had knocked down the flames by 6:37 p.m. And as fire crews made their way through the unit, they found Hultman lying on the ground.
