A federal judge says a Fargo woman should not get money for time spent in prison on an illegal gambling conviction that was later overturned.
U.S. District Judge Ralph Erickson refused to sign a certificate of innocence for Susan Bala, the former president of a simulcast horse racing company. The certificate is needed for Bala to recover damages.
Bala was asking for more than $71,000 each for her and her company, Racing Services.
Bala was convicted in 2005 of illegal gambling and ordered to serve 27 months in prison. She was in prison for 523 days.
