WAHPETON, N.D. — Authorities here have identified the man airlifted to a Fargo hospital after he was seriously injured in a camper explosion.

Just after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday night, Dec. 3, emergency responders were dispatched to a report of an explosion about 6 miles west of Wahpeton. Michael Friederichs, 71, was inside the camper and suffered serious injuries, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Office.

Friederichs was taken to St. Francis Medical Center in Breckenridge, Minn., and then airlifted to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo. Sanford confirmed Friederichs was still in the hospital Wednesday night but did not release his condition.

The explosion is under investigation by the North Dakota Fire Marshal's Office.
