MOORHEAD —A fire broke out in a Moorhead day care center Tuesday afternoon, July 20, leaving a man with life-threatening injuries.
Firefighters responded to a report of smoke coming from a two-story house at 710 12th St. N. around noon Tuesday. When crews arrived, they found a fire in a kitchen on the second floor of the building and a man with severe burns.
The man was taken to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, according to interim Moorhead Fire Chief Jeff Wallin.
Police had children evacuate from the day care center on the first floor of the building. No children were hurt and they were all reunited with their parents, according to fire officials.
Damage to the home will cost at least $8,000 to repair, according to Wallin, who said no one was displaced as the structure was exclusively being used as a day care.
The Minnesota State Fire Marshal's office is investigating the fire.
