MOORHEAD — A contract has been approved to hire a firm to study a possible third fire station in Moorhead as well as to examine response times.
The Moorhead City Council approved a $14,500 contract with Five Bugles Design of Eau Claire, Wis., at its Monday night meeting, April 8.
Public Works Director Steve Moore said the construction of a possible third station is "probably several years away."
The current two stations are near downtown serving the north part of town at First Avenue North and 11th Street, with the second near Minnesota State Community and Technical College at the corner of 20th Street and 24th Avenue in south Moorhead, near Interstate 94.
The design team of an architect and retired former fire chief said it will look at fire call data from at least the past three years, future growth of the city and mapping of the city. A study could be completed in about four months.
As growth continues to the south and east in the city, Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Wallin said they needed some help to figure out where a third station might be best suited. He also said they are interested in response times as they don't really have a figure available at this time.
