MOORHEAD — An affordable housing project planned for north Moorhead could see construction begin in June, according to an update provided to the Moorhead City Council at a meeting Monday night, Dec. 2.
The three-story building is to have 46 living units, of which four will be earmarked for homeless individuals and 40 will be made available to other groups, including low-income seniors and individuals with disabilities.
The project is planned for a site at 2604 8th Ave. N., on land the city earlier this year agreed to sell to Commonwealth Development Corp. of America.
The purchase price was set at about $410,000.
According to an update on the project presented to the city council Monday, the project's schedule includes:
- January 2020, solicitation of construction bids.
- June 2020, commence construction.
- May 2021, complete construction.
"This is meeting a need for low-income housing," said Dan Mahli, assistant city manager.
Mahli added that Commonwealth Development is also behind an affordable housing project in north Fargo called the Edge Artist Flats, or just The Edge.
The city of Moorhead originally purchased the property in the 2600 block of Eighth Avenue North to accommodate the construction of Eighth Avenue as well as a stormwater pond and a bike/pedestrian trail.
