GRAND FORKS — The Grand Forks School Board approved a $1.9 million emergency transfer of funds Monday night, Dec. 10, to replace the boilers at Central High School and Schroeder Middle School.
The funds come from money leftover from budgets in previous years. Before Monday night's meeting, the committee was already planning to approve $1 million to replace the boiler at Schroeder along with some other projects, but when the boiler went out at Central, it sped up the process.
"If it was March and we only had a few weeks of cooler weather, we would probably say, 'OK, let's wait. Let's order this. Let's take care of it in the summer,' said Grand Forks School Board President Bill Palmiscno. "But being that it's December, you know first of January we still know we have at least 3 months of cooler weather coming."

The money will also be used to fix some roofing at Red River High School.
