Highway patrol updates list of closed roads in Grand Forks after heavy rains and flooding

GRAND FORKS — The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) and the North Dakota Highway Patrol have closed sections of highways in central North Dakota and Interstate 29 near Grand Forks due to flooding.

Motorists are advised to check road conditions before travel due to rapidly flowing water levels changing in some areas throughout the weekend. As of 7 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, Grand Forks has received 5.29 inches of rain, according to the National Weather Service.

Sections of Highways closed due to water on roadway:

• I-29 northbound and southbound lanes are closed at Exit 141 in Grand Forks . Motorist need to use detour along US 81.

• ND 200 from Hurdsfield to US 52 junction, about 15 miles, from mile marker 254 to 268. Motorists need to use alternate routes.

• US Highway 52 east of Sykeston , near North Dakota 30 junction at mile marker 208. Motorists need to use alternate routes.

• US 52 south of Fessenden , near North Dakota 15 junction at mile marker 186. Motorists need to use alternate routes.

Road closed signs and barricades are placed on roads and bridges for the safety of the traveling public. It is against the law to drive past a road closure device on a closed road.
