Jamestown man killed in 2-vehicle crash identified

An SUV and a semi were eastbound on I-94 when the semi slowed for a grass fire, the state highway patrol said.

SANBORN, N.D. — One person died and another suffered non-life threatening injuries in a crash that happened about 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 3, on Interstate 94 near Sanborn, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

An SUV and a semi were eastbound on I-94 when the semi slowed for a grass fire. The SUV was overtaking the semi when it sideswiped the rear tires of the semi's trailer, lost control and overturned, coming to rest in westbound lanes, the patrol said.

The SUV driver, Brandon Jacobson, 24, of Jamestown, was ejected and fatally injured. He was not wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.

A passenger in the SUV, Charles Barton, 62, of Jamestown, was wearing a seat belt and suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the semi, Tyler Goodroad, 30, of Jamestown, was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
