FARGO — AAA is reminding Fargo-area residents to beware of changing traffic conditions as colleges and schools welcome back students.
To help raise awareness, AAA’s branch office in Fargo is distributing free “Slow Down, Watch for Children” yard signs. They are available for pickup, while supplies last, during regular office hours of 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. weekdays at 4950 13th Ave. S., or call (701) 282-6222. AAA membership is not required.
A limited number of signs are also available at the Fargo Police Department lobby, located at 105 25 St. N.
AAA advises drivers to:
- Come to a complete stop. Research shows that more than one-third of drivers roll through stop signs in school zones or neighborhoods. Check carefully for children on sidewalks and in crosswalks before proceeding.
- Eliminate distractions. Children can move quickly, cross the road unexpectedly or emerge suddenly between parked cars. Reduce risk by not using your cellphone or eating while driving, for example.
- Watch for bicycles. Slow down and allow at least 3 feet of passing distance between your vehicle and a bicyclist. If your child rides a bike to school, require that he or she wear a properly fitted helmet.
