FARGO — While police attention seemed focused on the protest march and downtown rioting on Saturday, May 30, Fargo police were also busy investigating a homicide in south Fargo that happened earlier in the day.
It was not related to the protests.
Terin Rene Stately, 32, of Fargo, was arrested on suspicion of murder and booked into the Cass County Jail. Police said her boyfriend was fatally stabbed during a disturbance in the 1600 block of 33rd Avenue South about 3:30 a.m. Saturday.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the victim, Keanen Joseph Poitra, 27, of Fargo, with a serious stab wound, according to police. Poitra was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police said investigators immediately detained Stately. After what police said was a thorough investigation, she was then arrested on suspicion of murder.

Several neighbors on the block, which contains a series of apartment buildings just south of Hornbacher's on 32nd Avenue, said they didn't hear anything in the early morning hours when the incident occurred.
They also described it as a quiet, safe neighborhood.
"I haven't had any issues here," said Geoffray E. Martin, 31, who lives in one of the approximate 10 apartment buildings along the block.
"Everything has been safe," said Martin, who has lived in the neighborhood about a year.
Police on Sunday wouldn't release in which apartment building the alleged murder took place, and there was no evidence of any police tape or violence in the area.
It was only the second possible murder in Fargo this year. The only other case was just a few weeks ago, on May 12, when 39-year-old Anquine Lamont White was shot to death in north Fargo.
Saturday's case is still under investigation, and police said Sunday that no further information was available. Stately has not yet been officially charged.
