ST. PAUL -- They’re calling it a “public moooosance” in Chisago County.

Two cows escaped Tuesday morning from a farm just north of Stacy, Minnesota, made a stop at the Kwik Trip in Stacy and ended up in the parking lot of the Sunrise Estates Mobile Home Park. Deputies tried to corral them, but they started walking southbound, parallel to the interstate, strayed into some nearby woods and eventually onto Interstate 35 near the city’s border with Wyoming, Minnesota, said Capt. Derek Anklan.

With assistance from the Minnesota State Patrol and Wyoming Police Department, deputies wrangled the cows between the cable barriers on the interstate’s median.

Drone footage shows several law enforcement officers on foot and a cowboy on a horse working to contain the cows in a cattle trailer.

“You may have seen us trying to do our best ‘Yellowstone’ impersonation,” Chisago County officials said in a post shared on Facebook and Twitter. “Thank goodness we live in an era where being a cop means driving a squad (car) and not riding a horse. All joking aside, this could have been a bad situation if a car struck one of them at 70 mph. You are only going 70, right?”
