Motorcycle driver dies after striking boat on trailer in north central Minnesota

A motorcycle driver died Saturday night after hitting a boat on a trailer near Gull Lake in Nisswa, Minn.

NISSWA, Minn. — A motorcycle driver died Saturday, Aug. 6, after striking a boat being towed near a public water access.

The motorcycle was driving south along Highway 371 in Nisswa approaching Nashway Road when it struck a boat being towed by George Michael Lentsch, 62, of St. Paul at 7:02 p.m., Minnesota State Patrol said in a release.

Lentsch was attempting to cross Highway 371, going east, and pulled out into the path of the motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle, Alex Alden Nelson, 26, of Akeley, died in the crash. Lentsch was unhurt.

Nelson was not wearing a helmet, the state patrol said.

The junction of Highway 371 and Nashway Road is near a public water access ramp for nearby Gull Lake.
