MINOT, N.D. — The discovery of a woman's remains in a vehicle fire has led detectives to investigate the death as a murder, the Minot Police Department said Wednesday, June 9.

The vehicle was engulfed in flames before firefighters extinguished it about 1 a.m. June 3 in southeast Minot. The woman's body was found in the vehicle, police said.

Investigators have "strong evidence" to suggest who the woman is, but won't release her identity until DNA results allow for confirmation, police said, noting that DNA identification can take weeks to complete.

Police have been in contact with the family of the presumed victim.

Investigators are continuing to follow up on all leads in the case. Anyone with information is urged to call the Minot police at 701-852-7463 or Crime Stoppers at 701-852-7463. Callers can remain anonymous.
