MOORHEAD — A Moorhead man who was featured 10 years ago on “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” has been accused of having child pornography on his phone and sharing it online.
Clay County prosecutors filed on Monday, Nov. 9, 10 charges of possessing child pornography and one count of dissemination against 20-year-old Garrett Joseph Grommesh. The complaint was filed as a summons.
Grommesh has not been arrested, so a mugshot was not available. His first court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 15.
The Moorhead Police Department started investigating Grommesh in August 2019 after discovering he was suspected of having a phone with child porn on it, according to a criminal complaint. A search of the phone revealed 194 images that investigators alleged depicted child porn, the complaint said.
Investigators also connected the phone to a group chat where individuals were discussing child porn, the complaint said. Prosecutors alleged in the complaint the user of the phone was kicked out of the chat after sharing a link of child porn “that was too upsetting to the group.”

Grommesh rose to fame locally after he and his family were featured on “Extreme Makeover” in 2010. More than 4,000 volunteers helped the reality TV show’s crew build a 5,200-square-foot home.
The home was made more accessible for Grommesh, who had to use a wheelchair after being diagnosed with spina bifida. The birth defect prevents proper development in the spine and spinal cord.
Grommesh’s mother, Adair, declined to comment on her family's and son's behalf, but noted they have an attorney. Court records did not immediately list an attorney for Grommesh.
