MOORHEAD — A Moorhead man has been arrested in connection to a South Dakota crash that killed a 43-year-old almost two years ago.
The Moorhead Police Department confirmed that 18-year-old Gage Thatcher Stevenson was taken into custody Tuesday, Aug. 10. He has been charged in Codington District Court in South Dakota with first-degree murder.
The charge stems from the Sept. 17, 2019, death of 43-year-old Dawn Meyer. Stevenson was driving at more than 100 mph in Watertown, S.D., when he hit Meyer’s vehicle, according to media reports. Meyer was driving less than 35 mph, according to one news article.
Law enforcement said Stevenson, who was 16 years old at the time, was trying to kill himself in the crash. Meyer died at the scene, but Stevenson survived with serious injuries.
Stevenson is being held at the Clay County Jail until he is extradited.
