MOORHEAD — The city of Moorhead is seeking nominees for the Destiny Holiday Community Champion Award.
The Moorhead Human Rights Commission gives out the award annually to someone whose contributions to the community exemplify the compassion, resilience and commitment to uplifting others that Holiday was known for, according to a news release from the city.
Holiday, who died in 2022, organized the community's first Juneteenth celebration in 2019. In 2020, the Moorhead City Council passed a resolution to designate June 19 as Juneteenth Independence Day in Moorhead, inspired by Holiday's work.
Holiday's other work included founding two organizations, “The Birthing of a Diamond” and “Diamond Kids.”
The deadline for nominations is Sunday, June 4. Nominees must be Moorhead residents.
