MOORHEAD — A Minneapolis man has been accused of sexually assaulting a teenager in Moorhead and giving the child meth.

Clay County prosecutors on Thursday, March 16, filed two third-degree felony charges of criminal sexual conduct against 22-year-old Alexander James Funk.

The charges come after a teenage boy reported to police in January that he was sexually assaulted in January 2021. The teen said he told Funk he was 13 years old at the time, according to a criminal complaint.

Funk would have been 20 years old.

The two had sex twice at Funk’s Moorhead home, including one time when Funk gave the child a crystal substance shaped like a pill, the complaint said. Funk told him it would make him feel “more comfortable,” the complaint said.

The teen slipped in and out of consciousness as Funk sexually assaulted him, the complaint alleged. He collapsed after coming home from school and was taken to a hospital, the complaint said.

Medical staff found meth in the teen's system, according to the complaint.

An arrest warrant was issued for Funk, who now lives in Minneapolis, according to court records, which did not list an attorney for him.
