MANVEL, N.D. —A mother and her son are dead after their vehicle left the road and rolled into the Turtle River near Grand Forks on Wednesday, May 15.
A 40-year-old woman and 3-year-old boy were driving near the town of Manvel about 3:15 p.m. when their 2006 Volkswagen Jetta went off the roadway, overturned and came to rest upside down mostly submerged in the river, according to a news release from the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
The Grand Forks County Sheriff's Office said emergency responders performed CPR on one of the vehicle's occupants. An ambulance transported the woman and boy to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks where they both died, the Highway Patrol said.
Officials later confirmed the two who died were a mother and son.
Names of the victims are not being released to the public until family members are notified of the deaths.

Manvel is around 10 miles northwest of Grand Forks.
