BISMARCK — Beginning Monday, May 18, the North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP) will increase patrols to remind drivers to wear a seatbelt.
The initiative is a part of the national Click It or Ticket campaign, sponsored by the National Highway Traffic Safety Association, which runs until the end of the month.
The NDHP noted that wearing a seatbelt as well as properly using a car's safety features are a driver or passenger's best defense against impaired, aggressive or distracted drivers. Air bags alone do not provide enough protection, the NDHP stated, and when deployed without a seat belt can lead to serious injury.
The NDHP added that along with proper use of vehicle safety features, drivers should always drive sober, drive distraction free, adjust for weather conditions and abide by the speed limit.
