FARGO — Starting Monday, July 6, after 7 a.m., contractors are expected to begin work on the next section of the 17th Street South road and water main improvement projects, the Fargo Street Department announced via news release.

Project work will move north to the middle section of phase two work on 17th Street South between 21st to 25th Avenues South. Work is divided into three sections to maintain residential access as much as possible.

During the next few months crews will continue to move north toward 21st Avenue South.

Once traffic control is in place, motorists can expect the second section of 17th Street South to be completely closed to traffic. Access will be available from the north at 21st Avenue South or the south at 25th Avenue South

Project work on the south section of 17th Street South is nearly complete. Weather permitting, the plan is to reopen the section ahead of the weekend. Through each phase of the project, pedestrian access will be maintained. Access to some driveways will be restricted and motorists will need to use side streets and avenues.

The project will upgrade water main, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, pavement, curb and gutter, sidewalks, and street lighting. The existing street has been in place since 1972 and has undergone patching over the years.

The department anticipates the project will be completed in October and requests that drivers slow down in the work area.
