MOORHEAD - A St. Paul nonprofit will give away free computers to low-income families here next month.

PCs for People has selected Moorhead to be among the communities that distribute 100 free computers to low-income families as part of a mobile refurbishing project funded by the Blandin Foundation and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

PCs for People will work with Moorhead businesses and other organizations to identify desktop and laptop computers ready to be recycled.

On Feb. 26, the organization's mobile refurbishing team will travel to Moorhead, refurbish the donated computers and install a new copy of Microsoft Windows XP or Windows 7 operating systems. The computers then will be loaded with free software such as educational games, OpenOffice and security and antivirus software.

The organization will work with local schools to identify low-income families that would benefit. Computers will be distributed Feb. 28.
