DRAYTON, N.D. — Authorities have identified a driver killed in a head-on collision west of here on the evening of Friday, May 20.
The crash happened at about 7:45 p.m., when dusk was falling, on North Dakota Highway 66 two miles west of Drayton, according to Sgt. Jeffrey Bauske of the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
Gregory Emanualson, 65, Drayton, suffered fatal injuries in the crash. He was not wearing restraints, but the airbag deployed, Bauske said.
Emanualson was driving a westbound sport-utility vehicle that crossed into the eastbound lane, striking another sport-utility vehicle head-on. The two vehicles ended up in opposite ditches along the highway, Bauske said.
Gregory Hoppe, Jr., Williston, the other driver, sustained serious but non life-threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks. Hoppe was wearing a shoulder belt and a lap belt and his airbags deployed.
