Jet truck performer, known to Fargo AirSho fans, dies in fiery accident

Chris Darnell had performed at the Fargo AirSho most recently in 2021 and had appeared at a show near Grand Forks two weeks before his death.

FARGO — Chris Darnell, who drove a truck powered by three jet engines and performed on the air show circuit, died in a crash while racing two airplanes on Saturday, July 2.

The accident happened at the Field of Flight Air Show in Battle Creek, Michigan, according to the Washington Post.

Darnell performed at the Fargo AirSho, most recently in 2021 , and was in North Dakota two weeks before his fatal crash when he performed at the Northern Thunder show at Grand Forks Air Force Base.

The Fargo AirSho posted a tribute to Darnell on its Facebook page.

"Darnell was a motorsports pro, and his expertise was enjoyed by the thousands of fans every year on the air show circuit," the Fargo AirSho post said. "He will be sorely missed."
