BISMARCK — North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum announced Monday, Jan. 17, his annual State of the State speech scheduled for later this week will be postponed due to illness.
Originally slated to take place Wednesday on the North Dakota State University campus in Fargo, the address will soon be rescheduled, Burgum's office said in a news release.
The governor has a case of laryngitis, and he doesn't want vocal issues to distract from the message of the speech, the release stated. Burgum tested negative for COVID-19 as recently as Monday afternoon.
The Republican governor delivers the speech in a different location every other year when the state Legislature is not in session. Two years ago, he gave the address in Grand Forks.
In the past, Burgum has used the speech to highlight North Dakota's positive attributes.
