BISMARCK — The North Dakota of Public Instruction is asking residents to submit nominations for 2022 County Teacher of the Year award. The county winners will then have the opportunity to apply for 2023 North Dakota Teacher of the Year.
The state is seeking nominations for "outstanding" classroom K-12 teachers from each of North Dakota's 53 counties. Teachers named the County Teacher of the Year award will then be invited to apply for North Dakota Teacher of the Year, according to the Department of Public Instruction.
"Our teachers provide excellent education to their students, particularly during this time of COVID-19 pandemic issues,” said State Superintendent Kirsten Baesler in a statement. "This is a great way for North Dakotans to honor teachers who are doing heroic work to prepare students for their future."
Last year, the Department received County Teacher of the Year nominations from 40 counties, but Baesler said the goal is to have nominees from all 53 counties.
Applications for County Teacher of the Year are open until Sunday, Feb. 13, and winners will be announced in the spring. The 2023 Teacher of the Year award will be announced before Sept. 30.

"This is a way to honor teachers, support education, and elevate the importance of teaching as a profession," Baesler said in a statement.
