North Dakotans invited to submit writing for state fair contests

MINOT, N.D. — North Dakotans have the chance to showcase their writing in two contests at this year's state fair.

Work will be displayed in the 4-H Hall in the North Dakota State Fair Center during the fair July 21-29.

One contest allows a state resident to enter up to three works in any form, including short stories, poems, plays and essays.

Entries will be split into three age divisions: 13 and under, 14-20, and 21 and older.

Writers can also submit work for the Heritage Contest that seeks entries illustrating North Dakota’s culture and heritage. A state resident may enter up to three works, including personal reminiscences, interviews with people who have lived in the state, or pieces of writing based on letters, diaries and other old documents.

The Heritage Contest will have two age divisions: 20 years and younger, and 21 and older.

Each contest will have a "best in show" prize worth $150, and smaller cash prizes for each age group. In both contests, the maximum length for an entry is 2,500 words.

Entries for both contests should be sent to: North Dakota State Fair Writing Contest, Box 1796, Minot, ND 58702 or to competitive@ndstatefair.com. All entries must be in the fair office by Thursday, July 6.
