FARGO — Some county roads north of West Fargo and near Harwood are still experiencing flooding from the Sheyenne River.

Jason Benson, the Cass County engineer, said the Sheyenne is expected to rise about another half foot and will crest at about 90.4 feet at Harwood this weekend.

As a result, county roads subject to flooding likely will remain wet for about another week, he said Thursday, May 12.

The most significant impacts are expected in the following areas:

  • Cass County 36, closed — a gravel road between Horace and Kindred along the west side of the Sheyenne River.
  • Cass County 14, closed — west of Horace is overtopped by water from the overflowing Sheyenne.
  • Cass County 8, closed — west of the Sheyenne Diversion is underwater and closed.
  • Cass County 20, south of Harwood, water is starting to run onto the road but will remain open.
  • Cass County 17, intersection of 17 and 20, water is approaching and trickling onto road, but will remain open.

County officials have advised the Fargo National Cemetery near Harwood that funeral traffic should approach from the west, via Mapleton, while the Sheyenne River is flooding, Benson said.
In southern Cass County, in the Kindred area, road conditions have improved. "The water's gone down about a foot."

Although County Road 36 is no longer flooding, it remains closed until it dries off and repairs can be made, Benson said.
