VALLEY CITY, N.D. — A local record is being shattered by a dedicated Valley City High School senior.

Hadlee Mathias is making local history by earning 41 college credits, and she has not even graduated from high school yet. It is the most college credits earned by a high school student since Valley City State University started its dual-credit program.

She plans to go to VCSU to get her degree in teaching, already knocking three semesters from the time she would need to spend in college. One of the college course she took got her experience as a teacher's assistant.

Mathias tells WDAY News she did not realize she broke the college-credit record when it happened.

"I got called into the office and I was so confused because I didn't do like, anything wrong, so I was really nervous, but she told me that I broke the record."

On top of the 41 college credits, Mathias takes part in several extracurricular activities including softball in the spring. She has a part-time job on weekends.
