JAMESTOWN, N.D. — A Jamestown woman has been sentenced in Southeast District Court to five-and-a-half years in prison after she pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated assault in connection with a July 2021 incident in which a highway patrol trooper was dragged by a vehicle.
Amanda Gwen Leavy, 35, also was ordered to pay restitution of more than $9,000.
In addition to pleading guilty to the aggravated assault charge, Leavy pleaded guilty to a number of other charges relating to the incident, including theft and simple assault.
Sentences Leavy received for those charges will run concurrent with the sentence she received on the aggravated assault charge.
According to a report the North Dakota Highway Patrol released following the incident:

Authorities received a call the morning of July 26, 2021, of a car driving recklessly on Interstate 94 near Tower City.
A trooper found the car parked about 3 miles west of Tower City at the Oriska rest area, with the driver, later identified as Leavy, passed out inside.
The trooper woke the driver up and placed her under arrest after seeing signs she was under the influence of methamphetamine.
When the trooper attempted to remove the woman from the vehicle, she went into reverse, dragging the trooper.
When the trooper managed to get back into the car and put it into park, the driver then attempted to disarm the trooper.
It was later determined the car had been stolen from Clay County, Minnesota.
