PEEVER, S.D. — A man from far northeast South Dakota is facing life in prison for kidnapping.

Brandon Lee Renville, 29, of Peever, which is just south of Sisseton, entered a not guilty plea in federal court in Aberdeen last week to charges of kidnapping — with a possible life sentence — and interstate domestic violence.

Renville is accused of making his spouse leave Indian Country by force on Nov. 6. An indictment alleges he used a dangerous weapon to assault the victim in the incident.

On Dec. 21, the indictment said, he was an unlawful user of a controlled substance and knowingly possessed a firearm, which has resulted in a charge of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

Renville remains in custody, pending a trial set for April 13.
