KILLDEER, N.D. – A valve failure at an oil well caused about 400 barrels, or 16,800 gallons, of oil to spill on Saturday, Nov. 19, but the spill was contained and recovered, the North Dakota Oil and Gas Division said.

HRC Operating LLC reported the incident on Sunday at a well about 15 miles north of Killdeer.

A state inspector has been to the site, which is on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation. The inspector will coordinate with Three Affiliated Tribes to determine if any additional remediation is necessary.
