WAHPETON, N.D. — A man is dead after he was found with stab wounds in a Wahpeton apartment late Monday, March 25, according to the Wahpeton Police Department.
The 37-year-old victim was still conscious around 11:30 p.m. when police arrived at an apartment building at 815 Center St. S. First responders tried to save the man's life, but he died from his stab wounds, police said.
Assisted by the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation, police were able to identify and arrest the suspect in the stabbing by 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26.
Police wouldn't reveal the name or age of the suspect because charges have not yet been filed in court, but said the suspect is a lifelong Wahpeton resident.
The victim will not be identified until next of kin is notified of his death. Police said he had been living in Wahpeton for around one month before the stabbing.

Neighbor Hunter Meyer said he heard the incident as it unfolded Monday night. He said he first saw police cars and then heard screaming from the apartment where the stabbing took place.
"I was scared, to be honest. Something happened just a door down," Meyer said. "I've heard of stuff like this going on, but it just never really bothered me because it happened so far away. But this was right next door so this was really different."
