ROLETTE, N.D — A Rolette County man will serve more than 11 years in prison for a deadly shooting and SWAT standoff that took place in July 2018 .
According to court documents, on Monday, Nov. 9, Ronald Wayne Wootan, 51, amended a previous plea of not guilty of manslaughter made on Dec. 17 to guilty for shooting and killing 26-year-old James Pochant in Rolette in 2018.
On Aug. 11, Wootan amended not guilty pleas for three felonies to guilty pleas: aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, reckless endangerment and preventing arrest. A fourth charge of terrorizing was dismissed.
Wootan was facing life in prison after he was initially charged with murder.
