FERGUS FALLS, Minn. — A 28-year-old Rothsay, Minn., mother of three who was involved in a hit and run crash near Fergus Falls on snowy, icy Interstate 29 on Feb. 24 is in stable condition, although her injuries are serious.

Hillary Langfeld suffered a concussion, collapsed lung, five broken ribs and fractures in her legs that will require multiple surgeries, according to a GoFundMe page. She was taken by helicopter to Sanford Health in Fargo after she was struck by a passing vehicle on I-94 at about 8:30 a.m. that day.

Langfeld's recovery is expected to take several months. In an initial report, the Minnesota State Patrol said her injuries were life-threatening.

An updated report just released on Tuesday, March 2, by the State Patrol said Langfeld spun out, slid off the interstate, hit a guard rail and was out of her vehicle when another vehicle driven by a 15-year-old hit her, then a tow truck and another vehicle.

After the crashes, the 15-year-old and an 18-year-old passenger, Amani Gabrielle Ashford of St. Paul, fled on foot along nearby railroad tracks.

State troopers, along with Fergus Falls police officers and Otter Tail County deputies, found the two a short time later.

The 15-year-old was taken to the Clay County Juvenile Detention Center in Moorhead, while Ashford was questioned and released, said the patrol.

The tow truck was helping Langfeld and was driven by Robert Stockinger, 43, of Elizabeth, Minn., who wasn't injured.

The other vehicle who was hit by the 15-year-old was driven by Alexander Michael Warner, 45, of Fargo, who also wasn't injured.
