Three die in head-on crash, vehicle fire near Minot

MINOT, N.D. — Three people died in a two-vehicle crash at about 12:36 p.m. Monday, July 15, along Highway 23 , mile marker 101. The crash was about 14 miles south and 4 miles west of Minot, N.D.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol , a Chevy Silverado driven by a 78-year-old man from Douglas, N.D., was traveling westbound on Highway 23. A Chevy Suburban driven by a 28-year-old man with two passengers, all from Parshall, N.D., was traveling eastbound. According to the highway patrol, the Silverado crossed into the eastbound lane and struck the Suburban head-on.

The Silverado left the roadway to the south, coming to a rest upright, facing south, on the south slope of the highway. The Suburban left the roadway to the south, coming to a rest on the passenger side, facing east in the south ditch of the highway. The Suburban then started on fire and was fully engulfed in flames.

The driver of the Silverado, the driver of the Suburban and a 27-year-old female died. A juvenile female passenger in the Suburban had minor injuries. All involved were wearing seatbelts; the juvenile was in a child-safety seat.

The crash remains under investigation by the highway patrol.

The highway patrol, New Town Ambulance Service, Max Ambulance Service, Max Fire and Rescue and the Ward County Sheriff’s Department responded to the crash.
