FARGO — Parking in downtown Fargo just got a whole lot easier.
The 380-vehicle Block 9 Parking Ramp is open for business along Fifth Street North across from the Radisson Hotel, with parking during the day available for leasing or for an hourly fee.
The fee schedule is $3 for up to three hours, $5 for three to six hours and $8 for all day. From 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and on weekends, parking is free.
The contains six levels of parking, but the first floor is reserved for US Bank customers, who lost parking spots when construction started on the Block 9 building next door.
Also, for now, the seventh floor of the ramp is closed off because it's being used as a staging area for the Block 9 building construction so the crane can easily pick up items there and move them into the building, said Kilbourne President Mike Almendinger.
An elevator and two staircases can be used by parking customers with access to new, wider sidewalks outside the parking ramp.
It is the second large parking garage downtown to open in the past two years, with the 450-stall Roberts Commons Parking Garage or "RoCo" ramp opening in 2017. By next fall, Almendinger said they hope to have a third new ramp open in the old Goodyear lot at Fourth Avenue North and Broadway, where another Kilbourne Group multi-use apartment and business building will soon be under construction. He said the hope is to have the ramp completed before Block 9 opens, as RDO employees will be using the Block 9 ramp during the day, as will hotel guests. It will still be open on nights and weekends free for the public.
The other two downtown ramps are the Island Park ramp on the southside of downtown, next to Wells Fargo and Bank of the West and the ramp behind the Radisson Hotel.
The city and Kilbourne Group have partnered on the parking garages in an attempt to ease parking shortages downtown.
