FARGO — The North Dakota Highway Patrol is asking motorists to drive with increased caution after icy conditions on Fargo-area roads led to a large number of crashes Tuesday, Jan. 21.
State troopers responded to more than 20 crashes and more than 20 reports of vehicles sliding off the road in the Fargo area from 7 a.m. to around 3 p.m., the patrol said. No injuries were reported.
The patrol is urging motorists to slow down and drive according to conditions on the road. Icy conditions are expected to continue into early Wednesday.
Troopers also warn of black ice, which is especially common under overpasses and shaded areas on the road. The clear coats of ice on the pavement are difficult for drivers to see and can lead to crashes.
The Minnesota State Patrol is also warning of slick conditions on roads in the region. Spokesman Sgt. Jesse Grabow said Tuesday's warmer temperatures and wind may cause "blow ice" and wheel track ice.
