UPDATE: Casselton man faces murder charge after shooting

At about 9:35 p.m. the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a gunshot at a home on the 100 block of Third Street North.

CASSELTON, N.D. — A 23-year-old man was arrested Friday, May 8, and faces a murder charge after a shooting at a home in Casselton sent a 50-year-old man to the hospital, according to Cass County Sheriff Jesse Jahner.

At about 9:35 p.m. the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a gunshot at a home on the 100 block of Third Street North. Dispatchers said there was a medical emergency at the address.

Authorities provided few details about the incident Friday night. But early Saturday, the sheriff's department said they had arrested William Dittmer, Jr., 23, of Casselton, who faces a charge of murder, a Class AA felony.

The victim was taken to a Fargo hospital by ambulance, Jahner said.

The victim's name has not yet been released.
