Victim in Casselton shooting identified
CASSELTON, N.D. — Authorities have released the name of the victim of a shooting Friday night, May 8, in Casselton.
Duane Turchin, 50, died at a Fargo hospital after suffering a gunshot wound in his upper chest, according to a news release from the Cass County Sheriff's Office.
At 9:35 p.m. Friday, deputies responded to a report of a gunshot in the 100 block of Third Avenue North in Casselton. Turchin was taken by ambulance to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo where he later died from his injuries.
Authorities have arrested 23-year-old William S. Dittmer Jr. for murder in connection to the shooting, the sheriff's office said.
Dittmer told police that he knew Turchin, according to the sheriff's office. The incident is described as isolated.
Turchin's body has been taken to the North Dakota medical examiner's office for an autopsy, the sheriff's office said.
