Wadena woman dies in Fergus Falls jail

The case remains under investigation


FERGUS FALLS, Minn. — A 28-year-old Wadena, Minn., woman has been identified as the person who died in the Otter Tail County Jail just after midnight on Wednesday, Nov. 3.

An autopsy by the Otter Tail County coroner at the Lake Region Hospital confirmed that the woman was Lavuya Jade Baker. The cause of her death wasn't released.

Baker was found unresponsive in her cell during a wellbeing check early Wednesday. Life-saving efforts were attempted by corrections staff, law enforcement and ambulance staff.

The county sheriff's department didn't release any other information about the case as they said it was still under investigation. It was reported that she was the only person in the cell.

Baker had been sentenced to the jail on Oct. 20 on a charge of assault in the third degree.
