WASHINGTON — Hundreds of President Donald Trump's supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday, Jan. 6, in an attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, while lawmakers were at work counting the Electoral College votes that would confirm President-elect Joe Biden as the 46th president of the United States.

Rioters forced their way past security barricades, shattered windows and scaled walls to fight their way into the capitol building, where they fought with police and roamed the hallways. They forced their way inside the House of Representatives chamber — causing the suspension of the certification debate to allow security officers to barricade the door and give lawmakers and others the chance to escape.
Four people died in the chaos — one from gunshot wounds and three from medical emergencies, according to an article published by Reuters on Wednesday.
